This started out as a quickie for my Sketch Blog but wound up becoming an exercise / foray into digital painting and a much less cartoony style. So now I guess I'll show it off here!
One of my earliest posts here was a sketch I did of an Angel and a Devil girl, well I gave the two the treatment and came up with two lowbrow canvasses. There's a healthy dose of tongue and cheek involved, along with some 50's hot-rod style art influences. The physical prints will be on canvas 1m x 1m.
I got the opportunity to design a t-shirt for the stunt and fight teams on the new Wolverine movie. After a few revisions and some back and forth communication the design wound up being pretty solid. Approx 300 t-shirts were produced and a limited run of hoodies. Here's the design.
And here's the t-shirt as modelled by the gorgeous Deborah.
Here's something I did for a bit of fun, the overall concept was to take some pre-christian Celtic gods, give them a bit of a twist and urbanise them. I've got a few at the sketch book level, but I gave old horn head here the works. Might add some of the other later.
For those interested, the latin at the bottom of the image, 'dis aliter visum' means - "it seemed otherwise to the gods" or in other words, the Gods have another plan. Kind of taps into the vibe I was going for, although ultimately, it was just a good excuse to draw a guy with antlers and big sneakers.
Been listening to a lot of Maynard James Keenan's creative project - Puscifer of late, wound up doing this piece, so I consider it indirectly linked (or at least subliminally inspired by) the music. Check out their stuff, you can buy it on iTunes or through their website.
I'm pretty stoked!! Looks like I've been picked for issue 5 after all, now don't I feel like Chicken Little!
I Want Your Skull is a limited run black and white publication and website, that focuses on art featuring skulls. The following is my entry in the May issue. I didn't get picked, but hey, it was a fun exercise all the same.
The Final Piece, entitled 'Thug Life'
And here's a set of concepts, no particular order, although you'll notice I did start it in colour.
Produced this piece with S4ndman, it's his turn to mess with it now, but I thought I'd put it up here for worldly perusal. I think it would make a pretty cool art print.
S4ndman (aka Mathew Beers) keeps a vox blog that deserves the more appropriate classification of Online Magazine, Vinyl Addiction. He's also the creator of the Bully Boombu art toy and a wide array of very cool artwork and graphics.
As if that's not enough, he's also one of the major proponents of Vinyl Toy Freaks, an online community of Art Toy lovers, who discuss contemporary art, urban vinyl and anything else that comes to mind. The site also maintains threads by some of the urban vinyl industry's heavy hitters (Erick Scarecrow of ESC Toys, Sket One and MAD to name a few!).
Check it out. Comments on the artwork, as always, more than welcome!
I did this Mike Mignola inspired piece a while ago, but thanks to a few comments posted by friend and fellow artist Rick, I thought I'd put it up for perusal! The robot guy is a little derivative of the Amazing Screw On Head, so if I ever do any more with this stuff I'll replace him with a different character. The skeleton character is the ghost Miyamoto Musashi (just to add to the trivia in this piece, the print on Musashi's kimono is a modified version of my business logo) and the whole thing taps into my love of 50's Sci-fi / Horror flicks.
Enjoy.
