I'm pretty stoked!! Looks like I've been picked for issue 5 after all, now don't I feel like Chicken Little!
I Want Your Skull is a limited run black and white publication and website, that focuses on art featuring skulls. The following is my entry in the May issue. I didn't get picked, but hey, it was a fun exercise all the same.
The Final Piece, entitled 'Thug Life'
And here's a set of concepts, no particular order, although you'll notice I did start it in colour.
Over at the VTF forums a creative request was put out for some mini-card designs. Here's my contribution.
For those interested, check out the VTF community, it's a cool place to shoot the breeze about art, vinyl and creative pursuits!
Design 1 - The People's Republic Of Vinyl
Based on Chinese Propaganda posters, I used the base of this design for a promo for VTF a while back and decided to work it up into a mini-card.
Design 2 - Horrorpunk Roots
I make no secret of my proud punk roots, so here's an old school appropriated image horropunk style card, this one has caught a couple of favorable comments over at VTF and is probably my personal favorite too.
As always, comments are more than welcome.
Produced this piece with S4ndman, it's his turn to mess with it now, but I thought I'd put it up here for worldly perusal. I think it would make a pretty cool art print.
S4ndman (aka Mathew Beers) keeps a vox blog that deserves the more appropriate classification of Online Magazine, Vinyl Addiction. He's also the creator of the Bully Boombu art toy and a wide array of very cool artwork and graphics.
As if that's not enough, he's also one of the major proponents of Vinyl Toy Freaks, an online community of Art Toy lovers, who discuss contemporary art, urban vinyl and anything else that comes to mind. The site also maintains threads by some of the urban vinyl industry's heavy hitters (Erick Scarecrow of ESC Toys, Sket One and MAD to name a few!).
Check it out. Comments on the artwork, as always, more than welcome!
Just a reminder, that the promotion for Vinyl Toy Freaks ends 20th of
December 2007.. that's like umm 4 days! :D So if you want a chance to
win the URFUKT Bud toy, get over there, join and get posting! Rules
What ever happened to 777run and the Mutafukaz series?
This was a very cool world, supported with a very cool website and an even better animation from around 2002 / 2003.
The comic book was finally released in French in 2006 with a follow-up issue released this year, no English print version on the horizon but there is an English language website. It's getting reasonably decent coverage in terms of supporting material, including a full set of Qee based around the series, RUN keeps a blog (in french only), but it's rarely updated.
Overall his portfolio website is still a really great example of what good flash is (when combined with a great concept and original art) and should get anybody who digs this kind of stuff vibed and inspired.
So it's a little sad that this stuff didn't spread, at least we've got Muttpop and the Luche Libre franchise that they're slowly building!
Enjoy the Video, it's very cool with a great style, and it's still an outstanding source of inspiration to me.
